About Sailorrose

Who are you?
We are a small company located where we grew up and learned to see; in New York City. We believe in designing and producing our products locally.

Besides making dresses, we like National Parks, history, Bird Migrations, drawing, hiking and camping. Music, road trips, photography, made-up games, reading, and movies. And cats.

Quality and Craftsmanship

We believe in keeping jobs at home, not using sweatshop labor, and paying a living wage. We have  found that keeping production close to home ensures better quality. It also keeps the carbon footprint smaller. We believe in quality goods sewn with care by craftspeople.

What makes your dresses unique?

Care has been given to each seam, button and cuff. The design is one thing, but forming it into the piece is what distinguishes it. We like to know our manufacturers, pattern makers and graders. We have visited their shops and they are Mothers, Fathers, Friends, Workers;  just like us. We work together, and the craftsmanship gives us pride. We hope that you will feel as good about our clothes as we do.

Do you make custom dresses to order?
Please call or email us for more information. It is available on a case by case basis.

Are other sizes available?
Yes, often we can make sizes other than those listed in the description. Send us and email and let us know what size you are looking for.

Will my dress shrink?
We recommend washing clothes inside out on the gentle cycle with cold water and mild soap, then hang dry. You can also hand wash. Due to the quality of the fabrics the colors can stay vibrant for years. Liberty of London has been in the business making fabrics since 1875. I still have a shirt made of their fabric that my grandmother sewed in the 1970′s. It has withstood many washings, wearings, and dryings and still looks wonderful.

Are your dresses sweatshop-free?

Yes they are. We feel that complying with the fair labor act is important, as is keeping more jobs here in the United States, and paying a living wage. In the last decades too many jobs have been moved overseas. We would like to bring some of them back.
